The Earth and feet-a deeply rooted connection.

0 0

When was the last time you stopped to ponder your connection to the earth?

Gravity is a brilliant force that allows us to live day-to-day without the care of drifting from our attachment to the earth. Like a mother to child, the earth holds us close so we don’t falter.  When our feet connect to the earth they…..

Babies and walking–it’s a balancing act.

0 0

It’s an exhilarating event to watch a baby learn to walk.  Seeing a youngster attempt to upright themselves and take their first steps makes the heart sing and usually applauds and ovations prompt the baby to his or her striding success.

With each attempt to stand and walk the baby’s feet gain strength and slowly their soft cartilaginous bones begin…..

Celebrate freedom!

Reflex zones stars and stripes illustration by Geraldine Villeneuve©

It seems we notice our feet most when they hurt–because suddenly our sense of freedom to move the way we want to is challenged.  What we also need to be aware of is how other parts of our body react to foot pain, especially the brain–which…..

The bunion. Is it a growth?–Is it lump?–Did I inherit this?–What is thing on the side of my big toe???

It is the belief of many that bunions are caused by a hereditary gene passed to them from a parent or grandparent because they had one too.  This however, is more folklore than actual.  There are many potential causes of the development of a bunion but today let’s talk about the most likely cause: The toe-box design of Shoes. The truth…..

Why do my feet hurt?

0 0

If your feet chronically hurt it is most likely due to extreme muscle and  joint tension.  Though the pain is in your feet, often the precursor to this discomfort is coming from the muscles that move your feet, and those are the muscles found in the lower leg.  In fact there are 13 muscles in the lower leg I like to refer to as long foot muscles, which attach to the foot and are responsible for coordinating foot movement.  So if you want to relieve foot…..

Can you wiggle your toes?

4 2

If you can wiggle, spread, and bend your toes you probably have a good sense of balance.  But for many,  this very normal exercise may seem like a far-away notion because when they try–nothing happens.  In these cases, the toes have lost their proprioception (sensory awareness).  In a way the toes have developed a sort-of sensory paralysis–meaning they can’t move because they have been confined for too long and their normal neural connection from the toes to the brain has atrophied.

What is it like to receive a Structural Reflexology session?

1 0

When someone makes an appointment for Structural Reflexology® they are seeking relief from foot pain.

Each structural reflexology session begins with a foot assessment.  Signs of stress are evident when the feet present areas of calluses, redness, puffiness and bunions to name a few.  Most people don’t understand how their feet work–or have an idea how their feet have gone awry.  In order to educate clients on foot function I sometimes use an ink press to demonstrate how their feet bear weight…..

Terms: REFLEXOLOGY  MICROCOSM  ZONES  WEIGHT BEARING  STRUCTURAL REFLEXOLOGY®…

The practice of reflexology has been misunderstood for years, and quite possibly for about 5000 years which takes us back to its  origin.  Every so often I hear people say reflexology is a form of meridian therapy or acupressure, and is a healing art that began in China. None of these notions are true.  To the best of my knowledge the genesis of reflexology is attributed to a hieroglyph inscribed on the tomb of an Egyptian physician, dated 2330BC, depicting Egyptians performing…..

What inspired you to becoming not only an author, but also a reflexology practitioner?

0 0

Almost every new client I see asks how I got interested in reflexology.  At first this would send my mind whirling down a rabbit hole in search of the most efficient way I could consolidate 35 years of experience into my answer without taking up their precious appointment time.  In my first blog, Journey to Put Your Best Feet Forward, I give the answer I would normally reply…..
